|Salted paper print, 1856 to 1856|
With Depew's signature, birth date and location (Peekskill, New York) and an inscription handwritten in ink "Yours Now & Ever" to Grove P. Lawrence, owner of the yearbook, on the opposing page. Depew was a member of the Skull and Bones Society, and this photograph shows him wearing the Society's insignia pin on his cravat. Depew (1834 to 1928), a great-great grandson of Roger Sherman, had a long career in New York politics. Most notably, he was an attorney for Cornelius Vanderbilt's railroad, president of the New York Central Railroad System, and a United States Senator from New York from 1899 to 1911.
