With Packard's signature, birth date, and place of birth handwritten in brown ink on opposing page. Packard was a member of the Skull and Bones Society, and this photograph shows him wearing the Society's insignia pin on his cravat. Packard (1836 to 1884) was born in Philadelphia and died in his home in New Haven. After serving at Yale as a tutor, was appointed an assistant professor of Greek in 1863. Three years later he was made a Hillhouse professor of Greek, and later, of literature.
