Kenneth E. Nelson (Bainbridge Island, Washington, United States)
Kitty Dreams
Daguerreotype, 2010

Because of the long exposures required, daguerreotyping cats is never easy. They have a keen sense to walk away or roll over as soon as the shutter is opened. A vintage lens gives the out-of-focus highlights in the background their unusual quality.

Mounted using archival materials in a modern black "passe-partout" that presents the entire plate for viewing. Overall size is 8x10 inches. Contact us for additional information.

Kenneth Nelson has been pursuing the art of the daguerreotype since 1976. His images are in public and private collections worldwide, including the International Museum of Photography at George Eastman House, the National Archives of Canada, the Nelson-Atkins Museum in Kansas City, and the B. P. Bishop Museum in Hawaii. The daguerreotypes presented here were all made since September, 2008 following a nine-year hiatus, and several of these new daguerreotypes have already been acquired for public and private collections.
