Salted paper print, 1856 to 1856
With Brewer's signature, birth date and location and an inscription handwritten in ink "With best wishes for your success in life / I am your friend and classmate" to Grove P. Lawrence, owner of this yearbook, on opposing page. David J. Brewer (1837 to 1910) had a long and superlative legal career. He was elected to the Kansas Supreme Court in 1870 where he served for 14 years. After 28 years on the bench he was nominated by Benjamin Harrison to the United States Supreme Court, becoming the 51st Associate Justice. He held the position until his death in 1910.
