Charles William Carter (Salt Lake City, Utah, United States)
View of East Temple Street, East Side, Salt Lake City
Albumen print, Carte-de-visite, mid 1860s
With printed title strip on green paper, mount recto. "Carter's View Emporium, East Temple Street. Adjoining Wells & Fargo Express." printed mount verso; "East Temple St" and the numeral "183" both penciled in a period hand mount verso.
A clear image which shows both the vista of the distant mountains and the wide street flanked by numerous businesses including a billiard parlor, the Western Union telegraph office and Dunford & Sons Hats Boots and Shoes.
A streetside sign for Carter's View Emporium appears to indicate that the building with three ground-floor awnings at right center houses Carter's own place of business.
A rare view by one of Utah's first photographers.
